Best Unisex Perfumes in India: How to Choose One

The Bold Rose

The best unisex perfume for you is the one whose scent family you actually enjoy, in a concentration strong enough to last through an Indian day. Start by choosing between fresh, woody and fruity-musky, pick an Eau de Parfum (EDP) over lighter formats, and test it on your own skin before you buy a full bottle.

That is the short answer. Below, we break down what "unisex" really means, how to pick the right scent family, and how to test without wasting money.

What makes a perfume unisex?

A perfume is not male or female by itself. Notes like citrus, rose, vanilla, musk and woods have been used in perfumes for every gender for a long time. "Unisex" simply means the scent is not designed around one gender's marketing.

In practice, unisex perfumes tend to balance their notes. A sweet top might sit on a woody or musky base. A fresh opening might settle into something warm. The result is a scent that smells good on anyone who likes it.

So the real question is not "is this for men or women?" It is "do I like how this smells on me?"

Step 1: Pick your scent family

Most people already know whether they like fresh, sweet or warm smells. Use that as your starting point.

Fresh and citrus. Think lemon, mint, green apple. These feel clean and light, and many people like them for hot days, the gym or the office. VIBE sits here: mint, green apple and lemon up top, with ambroxan, cedar and vanilla underneath.

Sweet and woody. Think rose, agarwood, patchouli. These feel richer and work well for evenings and cooler months. SLAY is our sweet-woody blend of raspberry, rose, agarwood, musk and patchouli.

Fruity and musky. Think berries, jasmine and soft musk. These feel friendly and easy to wear almost anywhere. FLEX brings raspberry, strawberry and jasmine over cashmeran, musk, vanilla and amber.

If you are unsure, notice what you already enjoy: lemon tea or masala chai, fresh laundry or sandalwood, fruit candy or vanilla desserts. Your everyday taste is a good guide.

Step 2: Choose the right concentration

Concentration means how much perfume oil is in the bottle. In general, an Eau de Parfum (EDP) has more oil than an Eau de Toilette (EDT), and body mists have much less. More oil usually means the scent stays longer.

In India's heat and humidity, lighter formats can fade quickly. That is why an EDP is a sensible choice if you want your perfume to last through college, work or travel.

All three Bold Rose perfumes are 60ml EDPs with "6+ hour longevity", made with 15% high-grade premium oils and a 35–40% base note ratio. Base notes are the heavier notes that stay after the top notes fade, so a strong base helps the scent hold on.

Step 3: Think about where you will wear it

Projection is how far the scent travels from you. Sillage is the trail it leaves behind. Both matter for choosing the right perfume for the right place.

In a July 2025 test by CCFT Laboratories, projection at 1 minute and 2 hours was:

  • SLAY: 1.3 m, then 0.8 m (sillage 3/5)
  • VIBE: 4.8 m, then 0.8 m (sillage 4/5)
  • FLEX: 3.8 m, then 1.2 m (sillage 3/5)

For close spaces like an office or classroom, a softer scent that stays near you is usually better. For parties or outdoor plans, a stronger opening can be fun. In every case, fewer sprays in small spaces is a good rule.

Step 4: Check how it lasts on clothes

Many people in India spray perfume on clothes as well as skin. Fabric can hold scent differently from skin.

The same CCFT Laboratories test checked our perfumes on 12 fabrics at 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hours. SLAY and VIBE were still detectable at 24 hours on all 12 fabrics. FLEX was detectable at 24 hours on 10 of 12 fabrics, and at 12 hours on cotton and denim.

Tip: test a small spot first on delicate or light-coloured fabric, as with any perfume.

Step 5: Test before you commit

A perfume changes over a few hours. The opening you smell in the first minute is not what you will smell at lunch. So the best way to choose is to wear it for a full day.

Our Discovery Trial Pack gives you SLAY, VIBE and FLEX in 3×5ml bottles for ₹249. Wear each one on a different day and see which one you keep reaching for. If you then buy a 60ml bottle within 15 days of delivery, use code TRIAL249 to get ₹249 off.

FAQs

Can a man wear a perfume with rose or vanilla?

Yes. Rose, vanilla, musk and woods are used in perfumes for every gender. If you like how it smells on you, it works.

Which unisex perfume is best for Indian summer?

Fresh and citrus scents usually feel lightest in the heat. VIBE, with mint, green apple and lemon, is our freshest option. Choose an EDP so it lasts longer.

Is EDP better than body mist for long-lasting fragrance?

Generally, yes. An EDP has a higher concentration of perfume oil than a body mist, so it tends to last longer.

How do I choose between SLAY, VIBE and FLEX?

Pick VIBE if you like fresh, SLAY if you like sweet-woody, and FLEX if you like fruity-musky. Still unsure? Try all three with the ₹249 trial pack.
